D Street Band                      

This veteran of polka music has been playing bass professionally for the past 49 years. In his teens Lenny began filling in with the band his father was playing with at that time. Namely, John Zurawski and his orchestra. His father was a self taught concertina and accordion player and was a huge influence in Lenny's pursuing a musical career in the polka industry. After high school Lenny was introduced to Jerry Zahara and was asked to come to a rehearsal where he was immediately hired. This began Lenny's involvement with a variety of Chicago Polka Bands over the years.  Just to name a few, Don Jodlowski's Vibrasounds, Stas Golonka and the Chicago Masters,  Lenny Gomulka and the Chicago Push, Windy City Brass, Al Jelinek's Chi-Town Express, Dennis Motyka's Good Times, Jim Killian's Honky Chicago and others.  Although the circumstances were heartbreaking for many, Lenny's highest honor was being asked to play bass in Eddie Blazonczyk Seniors place when it became apparent, that due to Eddie's illness, he would only be able to sing. Eddie Blazonczyk has been and will always be Lenny's idol.  To date Lenny has recorded 15 polka albums. In 1987 Lenny received the UPA (United Polka Association) award for best bass player.  In 1986 Lenny was one of the musicians on the Grammy nominated album he recorded with Lenny Gomulka's Chicago Push. Lenny and his wife Diane have 2 grown children, Brian, who plays drums with D-Street, and Tracy, who, when younger played keyboard.  They are both married and have blessed Lenny and his wife with 3 grandchildren.  The grandkids love spending time with Papa and Busia. Lenny also loves electric trains and collecting old die cast cars.
